You can park your car at the mall in Den Boogaard. From there it is a 5 minutes walk to the Piramideplein.
BPRC = MONKEY-HELL IN RIJSWIJK.
In the darkest spot of Rijswijk, in the Netherlands, around 1100 Macaque and 200 marmosets are held in the biggest monkey-centre in Europe, the BPRC.
Tied down to an operating table, the monkeys scream for freedom.
They are cut open, deformed organs are placed in their healthy bodies and they either die during the experiments or are slain afterwards. Other experiments in the BPRC include injecting viruses into healthy mokeys, the sick animals then sit in small cages and await their lingering, painful deaths. Every year about 200 monkeys in the BPRC suffer this barbaric and pointless treatment.
While the BPRC breed most of their own animals, they also import "fresh DNA" to suport their breeding colonies. These monkeys are caught in the wild in China and are transported to the BPRC in small crates. The EU claims it wants to see a ban on the use of wild caught primates, yet they continue to suffer at the hands of 'scientists' at the BPRC.
Now it is time for the EU to implement a ban on the use of all monkeys in animal studies like the European Parliament has voted for. There can be no excuse for the continued EU funding of torture centres like the BPRC, which is financed with the taxes of both the Dutch government and the European Union. They give millions of euros annually in grants to continue the horrors occurring there, so clearly what they say and what they do are two very different things.
As usual it is the grassroots activists and not the politicians who must make good on the politicians promises.
The Anti Animal Testing Coaliton wants to see an end to the unacceptable suffering of all the monkeys in Rijswijk, so we are demanding the immediate closure of this disgusting torture centre!
