Lab Dogs Need Homes!

"Outplacement or kill them" is the motto of the breeder of animals for vivisection

60 Beagles are allowed to leave the company for life with a family. The beagles are breeding-bitches of 3 years and older.

The Stichting Hulp en Herplaatsing Huisdieren (Shhh) [foundation for help and outplacement of pets] gets mail frequently from partner organisations about animals that need to be placed with a family or financially taken care of or they will be killed. Shhh does not want to place any emotional pressure on people, but the fact remains that if these Beagles do not find a home, they will be killed. Shhh is under tremendous pressure already, having to figure out how many dogs they can possibly take, and what is financially possible. Shhh wants every dog that needs refuge to find a loving family where the dog's welfare is secured.

Shhh has had 9 years of experience in placing animals. 350 of the animals were dogs, most of which were beagles. Based on this experience Shhh has come up with the following profile for a good caretaker of these dogs:

- willing to raise them without 'punishment'
- must have sufficient patience
- sufficient time
- a fenced garden
- no children that cannot be instructed (yet)
- protection against too much input all at once
- acceptance that the dog will be very frightened and willing to teach the dog that the world can be a safe place

Profile of a Beagle used in animal testing

Naturally there are differences between each dog but in our experience these are general points that apply to most of the dogs:

- they are housebroken in sofar that they are used to poop and pee in a corner of their pen.
- has gone through basic socialisation
- has had the needed shots, has been dewormed and has been chipped and registered by a veterinarian
- they need a lot of attention, there is a lot of 'contact lying'
- does well with other dogs in the house
- little to no aggression in situations where other dogs would display aggressive behaviour (the dog may not be placed in situations where it may display aggressive behaviour)

Shhh is looking for housing for these 60 Beagles. They are healthy and will not get any strange diseases that any other dog wouldn't get. If they are raised in a climate without 'punishment' they can grow up to be dogs that are no different from any regular dog.
