FIRST PROTEST AT SURINAME CONSULATE

The Netherlands - Last Friday (13 March) activists from the Anti Dierproeven Coalitie protested at the Consulate of Suriname in Amsterdam. Visible with banners and posters we showed the many visitors the truth about the suffering of monkeys in labs. People were shocked to hear that in 2008 Suriname exported 68 wildcaught monkeys to a notorious US primate trader who in turn supplies research centres across the country.

A journalist of Suriname's largest newspaper was present at the demo and wrote two articles about the situation, giving us a platform to many readers in Suriname.

Our goal is simple: we demand that the Government of Suriname stops issuing export licences to wildlife traders like Tropical Wildlife that intend to supply monkeys to vivisection laboratories. Also we want authorities to pass and enforce legislation that will secure the protection of all monkeys, by banning the capture of said animals for so-called 'scientific research'.
